Celestial Origins at Reeve's Art + Design

Celestial Press Release

Reeve’s Art + Design proudly presents Celestial Origins, by the multidisciplinary artist Tyra J, based in Dallas, Texas. This groundbreaking exhibit challenges conventional notions of existence, prompting visitors to explore the profound impact of social circumstances on identity.

Celestial Origins invites attendees to step into a multiverse where worlds are in constant continental drift, rendering permanent shelter unnecessary. Nomadic existence becomes the norm, prompting a reconsideration of our fundamental understanding of home and belonging. If souls inhabit non-human forms, how would they describe themselves? The exhibition encourages a departure from traditional labels like 'artists' in favor of the more inclusive term 'storytellers,' where core characteristics stand as the only meaningful traits.

Central to Celestial Origins is the interactive viewing of sculptures, each accompanied by messages detailing the unique operations of each world and the captivating journey each soul has undertaken. This approach invites attendees to actively engage with the exhibit, fostering a deeper understanding of the intricate narratives woven into the fabric of each creation.

Tyra's artistic vision is rooted in the belief that art can serve as a powerful tool for self-discovery and connection. A distinguished artist, Tyra has showcased her work in prestigious venues such as the African American Museum of Dallas, Latino Cultural Center, 500X Gallery, and the Canvas International Art Fair in Venice, Italy. Her impact on the art world was further underscored by a recent keynote speech at the Nasher Sculpture Center, resulting in the award of an unrestricted grant from the museum.

In recognition of her talent and dedication to the arts, Tyra has received notable accolades, including the Denis Diderot Grant and the Emerging Artist Grant from Chateau d’Orquevaux Artist & Writers Residency in 2023. These grants attest to the depth and significance of her contributions to the artistic landscape.

Tyra's commitment to fostering dialogue within the artistic community is evident in her role as a moderator for artist talks and panel discussions at Pencil on Paper Gallery, Art Talks, and How to be Social. Her expertise extends beyond the art world, as evidenced by her upcoming corporate workshop and breakout speech scheduled at the Boston Consulting Group in February 2024.

Join us for the opening of Celestial Origins at Reeve’s Art + Design where Tyra's visionary art will guide visitors through a thought-provoking exploration of identity, social constructs, and the limitless possibilities of the imagination.
